About Sweetpea's Children's Shoppe
Hi! My name is Julie and I own Sweetpea's Children's Shoppe. After the births of my daughters, 13 months apart, I left my job as a Probation Officer for the State of NJ. This was a difficult decision and one that I internally fought for a few years. My identity had disappeared…as did my brain function.
In a search to stimulate brain activity, I thought that selling my maternity clothes and the items my girls never used on ebay might provide that. Once those items had sold, I again felt that something was missing. A friend suggested that I sell for others, since everyone has stuff! This took off and I found myself a bit overwhelmed with two very small children and other people’s items.
My husband and I decided that we would have a yard sale and sell other people’s things that weren’t appropriate for ebay. What a success! We did this a couple times a year. However, after the last yard sale, my husband made his way to donate all the items that had not sold that day. Upon his arrival at the drop off location he was informed that they had accepted their limit of donations for the day. We found ourselves stuck with a pickup truck full and had to bring it all home. Our conversation led us to the fact that the items left were very nice and warranted another sale. My husband suggested we try the USell Flea Market in Vineland. This was the beginning of Sell It Now 4U, an ebay and consignment business.
What was clear about all of the sales was that children related items were in demand and the quickest to sell. To recycle clothing, toys, baby gear, etc., was not only practical, it was smart for the environment, and ultimately great for all our pocketbooks. In 2008, Sell It Now 4U was transformed into Sweetpea’s Children’s Shoppe, offering exceptionally well cared for and
new items. Our first "brick and mortar" store opened in November 2008, consigning for 80 families. In September 2009, we reached 275 families and we continue to grow everyday.
Sweetpea is the nickname for our daughters and a special name
that comes to mind when we think about all of our children.
I think we all have sweetpeas in our lives!
